Airport Shutdown Opposed

In the wake of University officials' orders to close Horace Williams Airport, members of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association are working to keep the landmark open for use. When University officials announced the airport's closure April 30, Chris Hudson, regional director of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, contacted the N.C. General Assembly for help in keeping the facility open. Hudson and association president Phil Boyer met with House Speaker Jim Black, D-Mecklenburg, last week.

Improving Basketball Atmosphere Requires Different, Creative Ways

TO THE EDITOR: All Carolina basketball fans would like to see a more raucous atmosphere for home basketball games. Accomplishing this goal requires realistic, creative changes, not factually incorrect rantings like Wiley Westall's column in Monday's Daily Tar Heel. When funding the Smith Center in the mid-1980s, UNC administrators shunned the corporate sponsorship or government assistance that allows Maryland students to sit courtside in the new Comcast Center and N.C.

Students Need to Attend BOG Meeting to Keep UNC-System Tuition Low

TO THE EDITOR: The Association of Student Governments of the University of North Carolina system is asking for your support and help. On March 6 the Board of Governors of the UNC system will vote to raise tuition. At approximately 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, the BOG will meet to decide how much to raise tuition. Student government at UNC-CH has arranged buses that will leave the ATMs behind Davis Library beginning at 12:30 p.m. to go to the General Administration building on South Road.
