Kick off the semester with the first film of the Diaspora Film Festival. This will also serve as a special Welcome Back to Campus. There will be Caribbean-themed foods (“Elza” takes place in the Caribbean). The director of the film, Mariette Monpierre, will be there to discuss her film following the screening.

PlayMaker’s 2012-2013 season starts with the first of their second-stage PRC2 shows. Playwrights Lisa Peterson and Denis O’Hare (known for his role on HBO’s “True Blood”) received a 2012 Obie Award for what is sure to be an entertaining and contemporary adaptation of Homer’s epic tale.

Kristyn Kusek Lewis reads from her debut novel “How Lucky You Are” and talk about her debut novel as well as the writing process and her experiences in publishing. Come with your questions in hand!

Lewis has an MFA in Creative Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts, and has worked in magazines for fifteen years. She has written for The New York Times, O: The Oprah Magazine, Real Simple, Glamour, Allure, Good Housekeeping, Self, More and Redbook.
