'Best decision of my life': UNC women's lacrosse veterans run it back one last time for NCAA title

Perhaps no group of Tar Heels feel greater satisfaction than UNC's veterans. After enduring postseason heartbreak year after year, the seasoned squad finally earned its redemption. After the Tar Heels were eliminated by Boston College in the Final Four a year ago, head coach Jenny Levy met individually with each of her then-seniors to discuss their future with the program. “It was probably the best decision of my life,” Mastroianni said of her return. “The people and the place, it was just too good to leave.”

No. 1 UNC women's lacrosse captures NCAA title with 12-11 defeat of No. 3 Boston College

No. 1 UNC women's lacrosse capped off an undefeated season with an NCAA title thanks to Sunday's 12-11 win over No. 3 Boston College. Graduate goalkeeper Taylor Moreno had 11 saves and graduate attacker Sam Geiersbach led the team with three goals to capture the championship trophy. The national championship is the third of head coach Jenny Levy's career, and the Tar Heels completed the first perfect season in NCAA Division I since 2017.

No. 1 UNC women's lacrosse tested by Stony Brook defense in Elite 8 victory

In the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals, North Carolina topped Stony Brook, 8-5, in the team’s first defensive grudge match of the season. The Seawolves' high-pressing zone challenged UNC, which struggled to find the back of the cage for most of Thursday's NCAA Tournament quarterfinals game. “We faced the best zone in the country tonight,” head coach Jenny Levy said. “Sometimes you don’t have to win pretty, you just need to advance.”

'Good vibes all over': UNC women's lacrosse cruises its way to NCAA second-round win

On Sunday, the No. 1 UNC women's lacrosse team dismantled the Virginia Cavaliers, 24-2, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Its 24 goals — a program record in NCAA Tournament play — showcased a juggernaut offense led by fifth-year attackers Jamie Ortega and Scottie Rose Growney. Fifth-year defender Emma Trenchard and graduate goalkeeper Taylor Moreno, held Virginia scoreless in the second half. The Tar Heels will play eighth-seeded Stony Brook in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
