He's Not sale finalizes

He’s Not Here, Chapel Hill’s iconic beer garden, has sold to a UNC alumnus and his business partner, a Chapel Hill resident.

Matt Mehok, a former UNC football player who worked at He’s Not in the early 1990’s, and business partner Bennett Roberts purchased the bar, according to an email from Neal DePersia of National Restaurant Properties, which marketed the property.

Former owner Dave Kitzmiller, who came out of retirement in 2010 to bring the bar back to profitability, has retired to Canada.

According to DePersia’s email, most or all of the staff is expected to stay on at the bar and the new owners plan to maintain the bar’s personality.

The sale comes exactly a month after it was first expected to be completed.

Mehok and Roberts “are excited about carrying on the longstanding tradition that so many have come to love,” according to the email.
