The Love Language to open Homecoming concert with The New Pornographers

The Carolina Union Activities Board subtly announced the addition of NC natives The Love Language to the Homecoming bill this week.

According to the CUAB website, The Love Language will be opening for The New Pornographers, making the night a danceable indie evening. The group — of Raleigh and the Merge Records family — played a free show with St. Vincent for CUAB’s Last Day of Classes event in 2010.

The free LDOC show — a personal favorite of mine, as a lover of both The Love Language and St. Vincent — was held in Memorial Hall, where dancing in the aisles was frowned upon. If you’ve never listened to the band, head on over to their website and see why limited dancing would be such a problem.

At last year’s Silver Factory gala, hosted by the Ackland Art Museum, The Love Language played the late-night after-party aimed at students. Hosted at Top of the Hill’s BackBar, there was plenty of room for students and community donors alike to dance the night away.

Both The Love Language and The New Pornographers are playing at Carmichael Arena on Oct. 29 after the Homecoming football game. Here’s to hoping the larger-capacity space gives the rhythmless a chance to flail their arms and legs to some catchy indie-pop-rock.
