CORRECTIONS: The original version of this article misrepresented the rule prohibiting smoking in public places. The 2010 statewide smoking ban does not apply in public places, it only applies to bars and restaurants. The 2012 Orange County rule also prohibits smoking outdoors in any place owned or maintained by the towns or county. The original version of this article misrepresented indoor smoking rooms. In Orange County, indoor areas where the public is allowed or invited is required to be smoke-free, unless that space is explicitly exempted from the rule.
