CORRECTION 11/10/2020: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated Antonia Randolph's title as a UNC professor in the Sociology department. She is currently Duke University's director of graduate liberal studies and retains an adjunct history professor title at UNC. Additionally, a conversation between Anne Whisnant and Joseph Ferrell was contextualized as taking place over email. The conversation actually took place in person following an email conversation. The Daily Tar Heel apologizes for these errors.
