TO THE EDITOR:
I hope students who have moved since the last time they voted will take advantage of the unique opportunity to vote early at the one-stop voting site at Morehead Planetarium.
Moving even a short distance can put a voter in a new precinct. If the address has not been changed in advance with the Board of Elections, the voter is in for major delays on Election Day. If the voter goes to the old precinct, he or she must fill out a form, then take it to the new precinct or the transfer site at the Chapel Hill Police Station before being allowed to vote. If the voter goes to the new precinct, he or she will have to wait while the precinct official contacts the Board of Elections by phone for verification of registration information.
Waiting through the lines is bad enough without the added delays caused by an address change. At the one-stop site, it doesn't matter what precinct you live in as long as you live in Orange County.
The one-stop voting site at the Morehead Planetarium is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through today. Take advantage of it!
