Though the majority of the race's 10 candidates said the campus is relatively safe, all stressed that improvements could be made in some safety practices -- a sentiment that is echoed by Derek Poarch, director of the Department of Public Safety. "I would say that campus is a safe place," he said. "There are always ways to improve safety."
And each candidate has a plan to attack security problems.
