CAA Addresses Concerns About Distribution Dates And Scheduling Conflicts

It has recently come to our attention that the first basketball ticket distribution date fall on junior and sophomore registration dates.

With registration now beginning at 10 a.m. there is some student concern over the selection of ticket distribution dates. Because of the importance of this issue, we would like to justify the selection of these dates and outline our course of action to appease your concerns.

The basketball, football and academic schedules created a great deal of difficulty in selecting distribution dates for this year.

First, this year's basketball schedule features more home games than in previous seasons, with many of these home games occurring prior to the return of the student body from Winter Break.

In order to distribute tickets in time for these scheduled games and maintain a relatively equal number of games per distribution, three distribution dates were necessary during the fall semester.

A number of existing events limited available dates for these distributions. Because of parking and facilities concerns, we are discouraged from holding distributions on home football game days.

Student issues precluded us from having distributions during breaks and final exams.

Therefore, a process of elimination left us with only Oct. 27, Nov. 3, and Dec. 1 as viable distribution dates.

These three dates, however, have their own conflicts -- student registration and a rescheduled home football game.

With these events in mind, we aim to conclude distributions by 10 a.m. this year.

Improvements, including swiping UNC ONE Cards during bracelet distributions, announcing the magic number on Fridays and handing out riser tickets first, as well as technology improvements in the ticket office should quicken the distribution process on Saturdays.

We apologize in advance if we are unable to meet time constraints, but we will do everything in our power to meet these goals.

Thank you for your patience and understanding of this matter.
