Last week, Campus Y Co-president Liza Potter posed a challenge to everyone at UNC to not let their sense of charity and desire for involvement that arose from the recent tragic events fall dormant.
Children's Rights Week, which lasts until Friday and is sponsored by Youth Outreach! of the Campus Y, will provide a chance for all of us to become educated about issues that face youth at home and around the world.
Hopefully, the events planned will inspire us to extend all of this newfound generosity to kids that were facing problems before Sept. 11 and continue to face them today. Come find out about the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child, which has been ratified by every U.N. member nation except the United States and Somalia. We'll have a speaker on the low number of minorities in gifted programs and a dinner discussion on child sex offenders. Or you could come hear about children's rights from a legislative point of view from Sen. Cal Cunningham, a former UNC student body president.
