Memorial for Student Not Appropriate or Comparable to Tragedy

In response to Jesse Wharton's letter about Daniel Walker, I agree that there should have been more coverage about Walker, the person, instead of just "the kid who made a bad choice." However, Walker probably does not deserve a memorial, as the victims of 9/11 did. There should not be any reason to memorialize an act of self-destruction, as in Daniel's case. Daniel made some very bad choices. The victims of 9/11, in many cases, were never in any position to do anything about their situations. I should also point out that there are students on this campus that feel no need to engage in such self-destructive behavior -- Wharton may think that all college students party, but that is not necessarily the case.
