Emily Johnson makes a great suggestion in her letter regarding student parking on Nov. 27: Eliminate parking permits for students who live in town.
This is such a darn good idea -- perhaps that's why it's been an University policy for years.
No students who live within a two-mile radius of campus may obtain parking permits.
So that's not going to help the situation with resident parking.
Also not helping the student parking situation is the attitude that having a car on campus is an inalienable right.
Guess what? The University's growing, and we have to decide which is more desirable, maintaining the integrity of the campus, or building parking decks to accommodate anyone who might want a car on campus.
Perhaps the University should build a parking lot off campus for students who need a car.
Perhaps the University should create incentives to get more faculty and staff to bus, bike and walk like many students do. No, students shouldn't have make all the sacrifices, but they should be willing to make some.
