Senior Disappointed by UNC's Lack of Interest In Student Voice, Concern

I have attended this University four years, well four and a half actually but who's counting, and I have let every problem and oversight by the administration go without much resistance on my part. However, I can no longer hold back the disappointment that has built up over my college career at UNC.

The school that I originally applied to in 1997 was one of compassion for its students, or at least they made it seem that way. There was no worrying about parking at night or sending professors to Qatar to teach, but what I see now is a place that is so money-hungry it is destroying what should be its most precious asset, its students. It has happened a little at a time over the years, but now the administration is not even attempting to give the students breaks between their financial assaults. From cutting out student parking on campus to entertaining the concept of night parking fees to opening a business school in Qatar, the true principle of UNC's existence is apparent. The increase in tuition as well as the rising number of incoming students is a constant reminder of the cliche that money talks. My sister is a freshman, and I regret that I recommended this school to her. While UNC is one of the best schools in the country, the construction projects and lack of interest for its students are problems that I will not miss in leaving. This place was once a beautiful campus with the perfect number of people for its facilities. It has become a place that I dread to drive to every day because of the congestion and constant detours for the massive construction projects that are under way. Hopefully in a decade UNC will gain back its honor and prestige from the days of old, but for now my deepest apologies go out to anyone who is helping to fund the chaotic mess that is currently taking place.
