Candidate Meeting Scheduled for Today

Students interested in running for Carolina Athletic Association president, Graduate and Professional Student Federation president, Residence Hall Association president, senior class officers, student body president or Student Congress must attend the meeting.

Representatives of the UNC Board of Elections will conduct the meeting and will distribute information about rules and regulations for campaigning and for the actual elections, talk about the standing meetings schedule and hand out the list of new Congressional districts, said Board of Elections Chairwoman Emily Margolis.

Margolis said leaders of student groups that are planning to host candidate forums also will be present to answer any questions students might have.

She said interested students do not need to bring or prepare anything special for the meeting.

"(Candidates) don't need to know anything in particular, although it would be nice if they would do a little research into their position," she said. "But most of it is self-explanatory."

Margolis said she expects a successful election season. "There's a lot of candidates, so we'll have to wait and see," she said. "But it should be really smooth -- we have a really great board."

The general election will be held Feb. 12. If runoff elections are necessary, they will be held Feb. 19.
