Student Hopes Daum Will Succeed But Agrees With Column

I am writing to make it clear that I believe the views expressed by Johanna Costa in her opinion column Thursday ("Engage, Enrich, Empower Me to Trust You") are completely correct.

Last Monday, I wrote a letter to The Daily Tar Heel expressing my concern that Jen Daum's platform was based entirely on immature appeals to gender and not worthy of the vote of the competent UNC student. Unfortunately, the letter was only published on the DTH Web site and did not get anywhere close to the exposure I was hoping for. As such, it failed to educate DTH readers about the truth behind her candidacy.

On Tuesday, 53 percent of voters made the wrong decision, for all of the reasons that Johanna Costa eloquently enumerated. Due to this, right now we have a student body president-elect who is nothing more than a fraud who used kindergarten-age tactics and outright idea theft to boost herself into the presidency. I sincerely fear for the coming year, not only because I know Jen will do an inadequate job in her position but also because of the fact that it seems the majority of UNC students cannot distinguish between appeals based on intelligent ideas and appeals based on gender-pandering.

Let's all hope that Jen Daum proves me wrong. Because if she doesn't, we are all in for a rough ride.
