The UNC Board of Governors' action on Wednesday, March 6 to assess a UNC system-wide fee to go to the UNC Association of Student Governments is the most important development for student empowerment in UNC system since students won a non-voting seat on the Board of Governors in over a decade ago. In fact, I'd argue that this development is much more significant.
The Board of Governors should be congratulated for their vote. The current and future students of North Carolina owe ASG President Andrew Payne -- and all of the other students who have fought over the years to strengthen ASG and increase access to higher education in North Carolina -- a huge thank you.
