Why do Chapel Hill residents have such a problem with the University? An article by Jenny Huang states that Chapel Hill resident Ronald Giduz has petitioned to tax UNC athletics tickets. I guess since the Master Plan has passed they have to come up with something else to whine about. For six weekends in the fall, the town is flooded by more than 50,000 Carolina football fans who stay in our hotels, eat at our restaurants and consume many a beverage on Franklin Street. The same thing happens during basketball season. They pump hundreds of thousands of dollars into Chapel Hill's economy every year, all of which is subject to sales tax. Giduz has been barking up the "tax UNC athletics" tree for 21 years.
Give it up. The town of Chapel Hill, no matter how much it wants to be independent, owes its very existence to UNC. So how about showing a little gratitude to those who pay the town's budget and drop your petition.
