I don't have any [problem] with the law school inviting Justice Clarence Thomas to speak at the University. What I am surprised about was that the dean of the law school, Gene Nichol, was quoted in the Daily Tar Heel as saying "Justice Thomas said that he would like to come and speak to students, and he did so in a very open and accessible way" This was an event that was not open to the public or the media; not even all law students had the opportunity to attend because of limited space (there was an application for ticket distribution); and students had to email the questions to Nichols ahead of time. This event didn't fall under my definition of open and accessible.
