Leaders Seek Solid Cabinet Candidates

Student Body President-elect Jen Daum and Graduate and Professional Student Federation President-elect Branson Page are offering applications online for positions in their respective Cabinets.

Daum's Cabinet applications are on the student government Web site, and Page's Cabinet applications are on the GPSF Web site, as well as in Suite C of the Student Union.

Page said GPSF Cabinet applications are due by March 22. Daum said the applications for non-officer members of the Cabinet will be due by 5 p.m. March 25.

Daum said there has been a lot of interest in officer positions and that she thinks officer interest will translate into interest in the Cabinet positions. "I'm looking for people who are motivated and are willing to work as a team," she said.

Daum also said it is important for people to work with her platform, as well as to bring their own ideas to the table. There are 17 positions open on Daum's Cabinet, and she said she is optimistic that there will be a strong group of applicants.

Page said people who are enthusiastic about improving graduate life should apply for his Cabinet. He said the application is fairly straightforward, and he wants to get a sense of who is interested.

Both Daum and Page said applicants' past experience in any type of leadership role is important for getting a position.

Daum said she will be holding interviews with the strongest candidates after reviewing all the applications. The final Cabinet members will be chosen by a committee that will be developed after student government officers are selected and approved by the full Congress on March 26.

Page said all GPSF Cabinet applicants will be informed of decisions March 25. The five officer positions for GPSF's executive board -- vice president for internal affairs, vice president for external affairs, treasurer, secretary and chief of staff -- will be presented to the GPSF Senate for confirmation on April 2.

His 14 Cabinet positions include child-care issues coordinator, public service coordinator and diversity awareness coordinator.

Page said he understands all graduate students are busy, but he wants to make sure that the new members of the board and Cabinet will give as much time as they can to working on their respective issues. He said, "I'm looking for motivated and excited people to work with me next year."
