America's Values Make Perfect Sense: Drive, Eat What You Would Like

I am writing in response to Ashley Holmes April 22 column, "Making the Earth a Better Place, One Step at a Time." In the column Ms. Holmes calls into question America's capitalist values, saying they often don't make much sense. I would like to aid Ms. Holmes in making perfect sense of America's values.

The reason why we, as Americans, are in love with Ford Excursions and pork chops is quite simple.

We drive big cars and eat animal products because we can.

If John Q. Student wants to cruise through campus in his monster sport utility vehicle getting five miles to the gallon with a "Keep NC filthy" sticker on his bumper while eating a slab of bacon, accidentally running over unsuspecting wild animals and tree saplings, and laughing all the way, it is his right to do so.

This is still somewhat of a free country, and although those freedoms are eroded daily by socialists in Democrats' clothing, for now we still have the right to do as we choose with respect to vehicle and nutritional decisions.

Until the day comes that we lose the right to make those types of decisions, please believe America will be consuming animals raised in "factory conditions" and driving SUVs in great numbers. God bless America.
