Based on his team's performance Monday night, UNC is more than ready.
Scott Manshack pitched a complete game five-hitter and Chris Maples went 4-for-4 with home runs in consecutive at-bats as UNC blanked Elon 7-0.
Maples' second homer off Mike Fratoe (2-7) cleared the scoreboard in left-center field.
"Nothing could stop that one," Maples said of his third-inning blast, his 19th. "That one was hit pretty good."
Maples followed his early homers against the Phoenix (27-17) with an RBI single up the middle and a seventh-inning double that hit the top of the fence in left field and bounced back into play.
Manshack, who struck out seven to improve to 6-0, has allowed three earned runs in his last 29 innings.
"After that first hit in the first inning, I just got my mind set and started making better pitches," Manshack said.
While Fox said he was happy with the performance of UNC (33-15), he said he expected them to come out strong.
He said, "It's the end of the year, and our guys should be ready."
