State Employees Face Obstacles When Making Complaints

I was a bit surprised to find Bobbie Sanders referred to as a "former" employee in your story of April 8 ("Former Employee Appeals Lawsuit to Superior Court"). As her supervisor, I can confirm that she has been doing her usual excellent job for as long as this case has been going on, as she has for more than 20 years as a state employee.

I appreciate your coverage of this case, which illustrates some of the obstacles which employees face when they take a complaint through the state's grievance channels. What begins as a search for justice often takes on the character of a war of attrition.

Editor's Note
A correction in the April 9 Daily Tar Heel noted that Sanders is still employed by the University.
