Pit Bull Owner Gets Fine

Thus spoke Chapel Hill resident Kae Enright in response to news that the Orange County District Court in Hillsborough will be sending home the two pit bull dogs that mauled her small pug and attacked her hand in March.

Owner Ralph Logner appeared in court June 13 to face two counts of harboring a vicious animal. He was ordered to pay a $50 fine and provide more secure housing for his dogs, Roscoe and Cisco.

Logner is scheduled to appear again June 27 to demonstrate that he fulfilled the court's orders.

Cisco and Roscoe have been the center of controversy since the March attack. Following the incident, they were initially returned to Logner.

But after they were discovered by local police again running free in a random parking lot and attacking yet another dog, the pit bulls were impounded by the Orange County Animal Shelter.

The scandal deepened when Cisco and Roscoe were stolen from the animal shelter.

The police were unable to locate Logner and his dogs for a few weeks after the robbery.

The dogs eventually turned up during a routine traffic stop in the back of a truck registered to Mr. Logner but bearing a stolen license plate.

In addition to the dogs, the truck had several stolen motorcycles in the back. Mr. Logner has been charged with possession of stolen goods or property, which is a felony charge.

He is scheduled to appear in Orange County District Court on July 27.

He has already served 12 years in jail for the murder of a man and the shooting of his wife.

Dog mauling has been a hot topic in the media nationwide.

The Whipple dog mauling murder case has been closely watched since its inception.

The most important difference between the San Francisco and Chapel Hill cases is that the California victim was killed by the dogs that attacked her.
