Education Is the Best Solution for Ending Ignorance, Anger

For years and years, I was proud to "be a Tar Heel." I was an avid basketball fan (I still am!) and a loyal supporter.

That has changed since Sept. 11.

I was disgusted by the participation of the faculty in demonstrations when we invaded Afghan. No, I am not against free speech ... for the students, but it is not the place for faculty to participate.

And now this insane requirement to read about the Quran or write a paper defending why you won't. Liberal academia at its finest!

This will hurt UNC, both financially with alumni donations -- I have stopped -- and with applications.

I have had two young students here in Oregon contact me to ask what I thought and how they were really having second thoughts about applying to UNC. What could I say?

Sorry, I am not feeling very proud of being a Tar Heel at this moment.
