The return of students has brought the excitement of fall and new beginnings. However, it has also brought snarled traffic and dangerous conditions on South Road.
Students snake across the crosswalks in single file, often by the hundreds at the time of class changes. Cars wait, backed up onto Raleigh Road, waiting to dart through any potential break in the pedestrian stream.
Pedestrians and cars should not occupy the same space at the same time. This concept seems simple but seems to have escaped campus administrators. Installing a pedestrian overpass or underpass would separate them, letting both flow freely.
