It is unfortunate that the (UNC-system Board of Governors) has decided to restrict the special tuition revenue so that not all faculty are rewarded for their service to UNC.
As pointed out by others, this means a cut in the salary of faculty who are burdened by increased contributions to their health plan and hits the young faculty with children more than the rest.
The greatness of this institution depends not only on the research and teaching of the faculty but on the great devotion that this faculty has shown to Carolina and its students.
I have seen faculty turn down much higher paid positions to remain here because they love this University.
The BOG decision will abrade that allegiance, and the message to all faculty is clear -- apply for other positions and if they are offered, leave or use the offer as a lever for a higher salary.
