On Saturday night, I went out hoping to have a good time. I arrived at a fraternity that was hosting a charity event only to find that the party had been shut down for violating a noise ordinance. Apparently, Chapel Hill has decided that having a band play past midnight is some sort of cardinal sin.
All of this got me thinking about how the town of Chapel Hill treats students. They want to ban duplexes and make us go to bed early. Our non-student residents are forgetting one thing. They chose to live in a college town and to accept all the repercussions and benefits that come with it.
However, residents are doing their best to drive us out by restricting our lives. If they do not like the hours that we keep or the way that we live, then they should move to a town that is not the residence of nearly 25,000 people who are thinking differently. Instead of regulating our bedtimes and our houses, why don't we pass a law preventing non-students from whining?
