4 Congress Seats Filled In Election

Nathaniel Cadle, a graduate student in the Department of English, won a seat in District 5 with five votes.

Sophomore Sarah Marske, an international studies major, will fill a seat from District 12, winning six votes.

Junior Abby Youngken, a political science major, was elected to represent District 17 with 11 votes.

Junior Bill Teeter, a political science major, was elected to District 20 with three votes.

Brian Fauver, chairman of the Board of Elections, said there was a great deal of confusion over what day the election was to be held. A total of 105 people were counted as voting in the election, but Fauver said many of those students did not actually cast votes because the voting software counts all students who enter the voting section of Student Central regardless of whether they cast ballots.

Three open seats -- Districts 16, 19 and 21 -- did not appear on the ballot because of technical difficulties. A special election will be held Thursday to fill those vacant seats. Students in those districts can vote from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Student Central.
