Bunting Terminates Defensive Tackle Coach

"I appreciate the hard work, loyalty and dedication Rod has given to Carolina football over the last two seasons," Bunting said. "However, I decided we needed to make a change at this position."

Broadway, who played defensive tackle for the Tar Heels from 1974-77, aided in coaching a UNC defense that allowed 452.4 yards and 35.1 points per game, both last in the ACC.

North Carolina finished 3-9 overall and 1-7 in the ACC.

In 2001, with a defensive line that included end Julius Peppers and tackle Ryan Sims, UNC led the ACC in total defense and was third in scoring defense, allowing 305.3 yards and 21.8 points per game.

Broadway coached the last two seasons at North Carolina following a six-year stint at Florida from 1995-2000, which included a national championship for the Gators in 1996.

The 23-year coaching veteran, who also coached at Duke and East Carolina, graduated from North Carolina in 1977. He played defensive tackle for the Tar Heels and was a first-team All ACC selection in his senior year.
