In response to the Tuesday editorial "Strict Fiscal Accountability," I too wish to congratulate Gov. Mike Easley on his move to prevent misuse of state funds.
Unfortunately, his new strong stance on fiscal accountability came after his budget. It is beyond me how he can fight to prevent the loss of $815,000 while approving a budget that leaves a large deficit that is his responsibility. What is this loss in comparison to the $400 million that the state will lose this year because Easley included $400 million in revenues from a non-existent lottery? It will be interesting to see just how "fiscally accountable" Easley is for his actions in his push for re-election.
