Edwards' Image in Public Disguises N.C. Senator's Off-Camera Character

TO THE EDITOR:

In response to the article "Common Man Focus of Edwards' Campaign," I would like to make a few things clear. The media has been swept up in a frenzy over John Edwards running for president, so swept up that they have failed to note some key facts about the self-proclaimed "champion of the regular people."

Edwards is so much a regular person, that he just bought a $4 million home in Georgetown.

Sen. Edwards claims that he will not take money from political action committees. Likely he will not need it since he takes about 30 percent of the awards from the regular people he represents in trials. As a regular person, I am happy that the senator has driven up my insurance rates and doctor's fees because of those lawsuits.

And lastly, John Edwards vows to "stand up to stop discrimination in this country." Hopefully he will follow through; however, I'm sure this will stop short of ending unconstitutional affirmative action policies.

I challenge North Carolinians and all Americans to look past his Kennedy-esque looks and charisma and see the true John Edwards, a hypocritical politician with a self-identity problem.
