Local taxi driver charged with domestic assault
A Chapel Hill taxi driver was arrested Tuesday on charges of assaulting a female companion, Chapel Hill police reports state.
Ansil Louis Joseph, 51, a driver for Tar Heel Taxi, was picked up by police at the scene of a domestic incident at 212 Mitchell Lane in Chapel Hill.
According to police spokeswoman Jane Cousins, Joseph grabbed the woman around the throat and hit her on the head several times.
Joseph currently is being held in the Orange County Jail under the mandatory 48-hour holding period for domestic abuse arrests. He is set to appear Wednesday in Orange County District Court in Hillsborough.
