Pair of park-and-ride lots sees instances of larceny
Two instances of larceny from a motor vehicle were reported yesterday in Chapel Hill park-and-ride lots, according to police reports.
Reports state that the first incident occurred about 7 p.m. Tuesday in a park-and-ride lot on Eubanks Road, when an unknown perpetrator used a tool to unlock the vehicle's door from the driver-side window.
According to reports, the suspect took more than $350 in CDs but did no damage to the vehicle.
The second incident occurred at about 5 p.m. Wednesday in a park-and-ride lot on U.S. 15-501, reports state, when a car window was smashed out and a CD player stolen from within the vehicle.
Capt. Brian Curran said the large number of recent automobile break-ins indicates that more than a few individuals are perpetrating the crimes.
"Some are professional jobs taking radios on order," he said, "and some are crack addicts looking for change.
"They can break in your window, take your stereo and be gone within a matter of 30 seconds to a minute."
