TO THE EDITOR:
Overall, the Campus Y has received good press this fall, and we are extremely thankful for that. We appreciate Joseph Schwartz's article about the structural changes that we have implemented this year.
However, the article would have been more appropriate in April when they actually went into effect.
The simple fact is that other Campus Y events have occurred during the past few weeks, and The Daily Tar Heel has failed to cover them.
Children's Rights Week started Monday, yet not a single sentence has been written about the 11 events scheduled to take place through the end of the week, save the picture caption associated with Schwartz's article.
We are not at all trying to say that this is a blatant attack against the Campus Y. In fact, we are but one of many victims.
It was practically a crime in journalism when the DTH chose not to write an article about the Frank Porter Graham lecture delivered by Hernando de Soto on Oct. 26 - a lecture that turned out almost 700 attendants and was telecast to Singapore.
While none of our events this week were deemed "newsworthy" enough to be printed, the DTH has found it relevant to publish six separate pieces within the past ten days on the renaming of Airport Road - an issue that, by and large, does not affect or interest students.
If the DTH seeks truly to serve the students, as its tag line states, it must do a better job covering the events of the Campus Y and other student organizations.
