Today — The Daily Tar Heel will hold a meeting at 5:30 p.m. in room 3203 of the Student Union for those interested in joining the newspaper’s award-winning staff.

Due to scheduling conflicts, the time reflects a change from previous announcements.

Any currently enrolled UNC student is welcome to attend the meeting, at which DTH editors will discuss the way the paper works and answer any questions interested students might have.

Today — The North Carolina Council of Churches will sponsor an Inauguration Day peace vigil in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. at 7 p.m. at the Carrboro Farmer’s Market at 301 Main St.

Attendees are encouraged to bring and light a candle for peace and sign a peace register.

 

Today — Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. are lighting candles at 6:30 p.m. in front of South Building in remembrance of civil rights activists as part of celebrations for Martin Luther King Jr. week.

 

Today — Dr. Benjamin S. Carson Sr., director of pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, will present the keynote address for the Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration Week at 7:30 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Student Union.

Free tickets are required and can be picked up between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. from the Carolina Union box office. Students must present their UNC ONE Cards and are limited to two tickets per card.
