Violence Prevention Center provides free support group

A support group is available for victims of domestic violence through the Family Violence Prevention Center of Orange County,

The group is meant to provide support for women who have experienced or are experiencing an abusive relationship.

Meetings are held in the evening, and free child care is provided.

Other services provided by the center include a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter placement and a violence protection program for teens.

All services provided by the center are free and confidential. Services in Spanish also are available.

Premier editorial cartoonist to visit library, drink tea

Doug Marlette, the Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist, will be at the Chapel Hill Public Library for a “Meet-the-Author Tea” at 4 p.m. Friday.

Marlette began drawing political cartoons for The Charlotte Observer in 1972, before joining The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in 1987 and Newsday in 1989.

Marlette is a distinguished visiting professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University.

Refreshments will be served before Marlette’s appearance at 3:30 p.m.
