Local middle-schooler wins stock market competition
Jessica Goss, an eighth-grade student at McDougle Middle School, won first place in the North Carolina Stock Market Simulation Essay Competition.
Goss’ essay focused on how the stock market simulation was beneficial in preparing students for the future.
More than 400 middle schools across the state participated in the 10-week stock market competition.
Students who participate in the simulation are on teams that trade stocks for a 10-week period. Teams can trade stock via the competition’s Web site or by having their teacher fax their trades.
Teams began with a $100,000 portfolio and buy, sell and trade stocks from the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ-AMEX based on real-time figures.
