Variety of public hearings set for council meeting

The Chapel Hill Town Council will hold public hearings on a number of issues starting at 7 p.m. tonight at Town Hall.

Among the issues up for discussion are the annexation of outside areas into town, the rezoning of parts of the Horace Williams tract and the renaming of Martin Luther King Jr. Street.

The annexation hearings concern the Larkspur and Vineyard Square areas, which lie northwest of the town’s current limits.

Council members also are considering rezoning parts of the Horace Williams tract to obtain more control over the proposed University satellite campus, Carolina North.

Martin Luther King Jr. Street is being renamed after the council decided in December to change Airport Road’s name to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
