House passes bill to create student vote in the BOG
By an 82 to 33 vote, the N.C. House passed a bill to allow a student member to vote in the UNC Board of Governors.
The bill will be passed onto the N.C. Senate but likely will face strong opposition from Senate Majority Leader Tony Rand, D-Cumberland, who serves as chairman of the Rules Committee.
During the past four legislative sessions, several members of the N.C. General Assembly have fought for the student member’s right to vote but efforts have failed due to disapproval of members of the Senate leadership.
