An information fair open to all incoming graduate students will run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today in the Great Hall of the Student Union.

 

Flicker Film Festival begins at 8:30 p.m. today at Cat’s Cradle. Along with a full roster of films, there will be snacks and door prizes for the audience. Flicker is a bimonthly film festival in Chapel Hill that was started in 1994 to showcase movies shot exclusively on film. Doors open at 8 p.m.

 

“Seeing is Believing,” an exhibit of watercolors by Margret Mueller, is on display through Aug. 30 in the Totten Center on Old Mason Farm Road. The exhibit is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

The UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Public Safety will be offering free engraving for easy identification of students' personal equipment from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today in Ramshead Dining Hall. The engravings could void the warranty for the case, officials say.

 

Lutheran Campus Ministry will host a new student welcome dinner at 5:30 p.m. today at the Campus Center at 300 E. Rosemary St.

 

Tim Tyson, the author of “Blood Done Sign My Name,” will speak at 6 p.m. today in the Great Hall of the Student Union. His lecture is entitled, “Martin Luther King, Jr., ‘Black Power’ and the Southern Dream of Freedom.”

 

The Orange County Board of Commissioners will hold a work session at 7:30 p.m. today at the Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill. The commissioners will discuss the Joint Orange County-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory and Action Plan, the Northern Human Services Center and the Stillhouse Creek Stream Restoration Project.

 

“College Jeopardy!” will be searching for contestants from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday in Fetzer Gymnasium. Contest hopefuls will first take a 50-question quiz. Those advancing then will participate in an interview and a short quiz round. Contestants who qualify for the show will compete Oct. 1 and Oct. 2 at the RBC Center in Raleigh.
