  • A man was arrested on charges of second-degree trespassing at noon Wednesday in Davis Library, according to University police reports. Kevin Aldean Royal, 35, was arrested and taken to a Chapel Hill magistrate. Royal was placed on a $350 secured bond and then transported to the Orange County Jail to await trail, police reports state.
  • Softball coaches discovered a $5,000 television set missing late Wednesday evening, according to University police reports. The softball team had an away game yesterday and left at about 1 p.m. and returned at about midnight to find a 50-inch Sony LCD television was taken from their office, police reports state. When the team left, the cleaning crew and movers were in the offices working. The coaches said the doors to the building also were unlocked, police reports state.
  • Two men were arrested Wednesday on charges of soliciting without a permit, Chapel Hill police reports state. Scott Biddle, 23, and Joseph Brission, 19, were arrested at about 1:15 p.m. on Oakwood Drive after they were seen attempting to sell magazines in the neighborhood, reports state. According to reports, Brission was placed on a secured $160 bond, and both men are scheduled to appear in District Criminal Court on April 3.
  • A 56-year-old man was arrested Wednesday at 210 S. Estes Drive on misdemeanor charges of concealed shoplifting, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Lawrence Edward Smith of 421 Ridgefield Road was arrested after police responded to a shoplifting call at Harris Teeter, reports state. According to reports, Smith concealed $23.16 worth of merchandise. He was released on written promise and was scheduled to appear in District Criminal Court on April 3.
  • A bicycle belonging to a UNC student was reported stolen Tuesday, Chapel Hill police reports state. According to reports, the bicycle was taken from 250 W. Franklin St., and the vandal cut the cables that secured the bike. The bicycle is valued at $500.
