At 10:48 p.m. a homeless man was arrested on a variety of charges stemming from the theft of a purse from a University freshman Monday on Franklin Street, according to Chapel Hill police reports.
Lawrence Long Richardson, with such aliases as Long, Lawrence DeWayne and Boo-Boo, was arrested on two felony charges of possession of stolen goods and one misdemeanor charge of common law robbery, reports state.
Richardson was arrested at 101 E. Franklin St. 10 minutes after a purse was reported stolen at 219 E. Franklin St., according to reports.
Misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and giving false reports later were added, according to reports.
Reports state that a Casio camera valued at $100, a Sony cell phone valued at $300 and a key valued at $5 all were recovered, but that the purse, a wallet, a driver's licence, debit cards and a One Card were not found.
The missing items were valued at $71, according to reports.
Richardson was taken to Orange County Jail in lieu of a $40,000 bail, pending an appearance Tuesday in the court of first appearance in Hillsborough, reports state.
Providing a positive identification of himself is also a condition of Richardson's release on bail, according to reports.
A bus stop was the subject of gunfire just before 8:30 p.m. Monday, according to Chapel Hill police reports.
Reports state that damage to the stop, located at 370 Umstead Road, was $200.
Police did not make any arrests in the incident, according to reports.
