Nathan Asher: A transformative experience

Nathan Asher has been a part of the Chapel Hill music scene since his time at UNC - he was a write-in candidate for student body president in 2001 and played in various bands such as Phantom FM to crowds at Go! Studio and Local 506. Asher is set to return at 10 p.m. Friday to the 506 stage with his Raleigh-based band, Nathan Asher and the Infantry, which plays a folk-inspired brand of rock with a hint of electronica. Chapel Hill's Eyes to Space and Washington, D.C.'s Gist also will perform. Diversions sat down with Asher, who donned a shirt reading "The Abominable Slow Jam," outside of the Raleigh Music Hall while he strung his guitar before a recent show to talk about where he's heading in music, live shows and unexpectedly, the Burning Man arts festival.
