Posters were too costly and went over the line

TO THE EDITOR:

There are two problems with the exhibit in the quad.

First when I was Speaker Pro-Tem of the 82nd Student Congress we usually reserved high levels of funding for concerts or speakers that could draw thousands of students. So why so much of our money for big posters?

Second freedom of speech is a continuum and we all know that there are limits. Even if a speaker is controversial people can choose whether or not to attend.

And there was no detour. This is not about content it's about balancing rights and understanding community obligations. Student Congress and the administration have let us down on this one.
