Town should prepare for drunk wandering crowd

TO THE EDITOR:

For town and University officials that supported this midnight end of Halloween festivities may I remind you that most parties don't start until 11 p.m.?

That leaves a lot of drunk and excited visitors and students alike stumbling to Franklin Street before and after midnight.

For those who arrive before being on Franklin Street for less than an hour won't be enough. For those that arrive after midnight and are turned away will likewise diffuse into the surrounding area.

What is worse? 80000 drunk people on Franklin Street surrounded by cops or 80000 drunken people wandering aimlessly around Chapel Hill?

I urge all officials who support this shift in Halloween on Franklin Street to bring a riot shield and baton and stand alongside the police at midnight as our law enforcement officers are forced to support yet another poor decision.
