E-mail about emergency covers up faulty response

TO THE EDITOR:

After Sunday's Alert Carolina debacle" I think we deserve more than the e-mail from UNC's emergency warning committee. This justification is weak attempt to cover up Alert Carolina's failure to preform its intended function.

The e-mail states that the reasons the siren or messaging systems are activated are ""an armed person on or near campus"" a major chemical spill or a tornado.""

If Sunday night's situation didn't constitute the threat of an armed person on or near campus" I'm not sure what will.

Since we in some way are funding this program to make us all feel safer why not make sure it works? Otherwise at least make it mandatory that everyone on campus has a Facebook because I found out there hours before the text went out.
