TO THE EDITOR:
At this moment an increase in student fees just doesn't make sense. The proposed expansion from $2.44 to $12.81 of the child care fee represents a sizable increase for a program that would benefit only the very few.
Given that students will be forced to pay more tuition by recent action of the Board of Governors families experiencing financial shortfalls can't bear the burden of a further increase.
In a campuswide e-mail about the budget Chancellor Holden Thorp said" ""We've got to be strategic and look critically at everything we do."" Yet in the midst of financial difficulties" we're being asked to pay for a service utilized by so few. However well-intended a student fee increase for child-care services is needless and should be voted down Tuesday.
