Project Dinah funding decision based on ideology

 TO THE EDITOR:

The Daily Tar Heel editorial board is absolutely correct that Student Congress has the power to make funding decisions (Let Congress interpret" March 18).

Our elected representatives have every right to decide which programs deserve the student fees we all pay.

But Congress does not have the right to make such decisions based on the ideology of its members.

The Student Code demands Congress maintain viewpoint neutrality when allotting funds.

Decisions are supposed to reflect the amount of student interest in a program, and its importance to a given organization.

More than 300 students were turned away from I Love Female Orgasm"" last year and hundreds more have signed a petition declaring their desire to attend.

Project Dinah wants to meet that demand. Congress" despite having a $15000 surplus doesn't.

Students deserve to know why their representatives are voting down this overwhelmingly popular program.

We're suing them to get an answer.
