The North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble, fondly known as NCYTE, is now considered by many to be one of the premier youth tap ensembles in the world.
But 27 years ago, it was not such a strong group, said its founder, Gene Medler.
“Back in 1983, we weren’t so good. We were like a bad garage band that has to practice a lot to get better,” he said.
